My personal Rating- 

{ Add up to a full star for those who have been bullied and/or been unkind to others }

In the first book of this trilogy, we hear about Jada and how she hurt Kimmy, her best friend. It felt fitting to have the final book be Jada’s story and see redemption not only for Jada, but possibly their friendship too. 

 

As a general rule, I don’t usually like books that have to do with bullies or being bullied, but I think the author handled this topic very well. Jada has the idea throughout this book that she has to earn forgiveness and plans to do random acts of kindness to show that she can be a good person—however, some of this backfires on her and doesn’t go as she hopes. An important lesson has to be learned and it was paced well for the length of the book. 

 

I think personally I would have liked to have Jada’s parents more involved and the fact that they let their teen daughters drive from Florida to Pennsylvania made me worry about possible danger (particularly how Jada goes and helps someone load groceries into her car and go to a gas station bathroom by herself)—but this is probably because I’m safety paranoid and live in a big city. Thankfully, it all goes well for Jada and her sisters, but it might be something some parents might want to discuss with their readers. 

 

Overall, I think this was a solid middle-grade trilogy and this final book wrapped it up in a great way. The faith content was natural and the lessons learned were ones that many readers (including some adults!) need to learn. I look forward to seeing what the author writes next!

My personal Rating- 

I’ve been excited for this story since first reading “Road Trip Rescue” and wanting to see more of Daniel. Both this book and the first in the series have a solid middle-grade charm to them and I enjoyed seeing the characters grow—Daniel particularly in this book. 

 

I really felt for both Daniel with all the changes that are upcoming for him and also for Mateo with the hurt of Skylar running off. As an adult, I have to admit questioning the two of them together still, but hopefully it will work out for them and Skylar won’t be so…questionable on her quick decisions. 😅 I think for the middle-grade readers there are good lessons in this book (especially the ones that Daniel learns by the end!), but I would also suggest for parent or a trusted adult to discuss about Skylar going off and her lack of communication due to it not being the healthiest idea for her and Mateo’s relationship. I wanted to shake some sense into her, personally, and make sure she and Mateo have strong Christian couples in their lives to have as mentors. I hope we’ll see everyone again in the third book and I’m looking forward to reading it soon!

My personal Rating- 

Even through I don’t really care for road-trips in real-life, reading about road-trips and adventures that happen on them can be really fun. This book almost had a nostalgic feeling to it, but I can’t place why or how. Perhaps it was the charm of middle-fiction fiction with chapter titles. 

 

I can 99.99% of the time expect a dog-themed book to make me cry. I don’t like those odds as someone who prefers not to cry, but yet, I keep reading them. This one was bittersweet for sure. My sensitive dog-loving heart accepted the ending, but my sensitive dog-mom heart wanted to cry out for Kimmy’s sake. 

 

I do feel like the faith content could have been worked in a bit more than Kimmy being told & later realizing that she’s never alone, that God is always with her, but it was good to see God talked about positively in a middle-grade book that could stand up against secular published ones. Neither Kimmy or the adults in the book are perfect and there’s lessons to learn and forgiveness to give. 

 

Overall (and despite my tears), I did enjoy this one. The ending was a tad rushed, but fit anyway. I look forward to reading the second book when it releases!
