"The Big Picture" by Laura Bradford

About this book:

“With Hannah Prentiss’s wedding drawing closer every day, she and her fiancé, Liam, decide it’s time to find their forever home. While touring one of the houses for sale, they realize the windows outside do not match the number of rooms inside. Curious, Hannah explores the house—and discovers a sealed-off room!
Apparently, she’s not the first one to do so, because inside is a box of art supplies with the name of a Blackberry Valley High School teacher on it. Hannah decides to return it to her… only to learn that this art kit went missing almost twenty years before. The teacher had received it from her fiancé, who died days later in a car accident, making it even more crushing that his last gift to her had disappeared.
Can Hannah discover how the kit wound up in a hidden room all those years ago and bring closure to one of Blackberry Valley’s most beloved teachers?”

My personal Rating-

Ah, this was such a good one for this series! The mystery was interesting with a lot of threads to follow, but I particularly enjoyed the scenes of Hannah and her fiancé!

As far as the mystery, there were a few parts where the reader was left out—or at least, that’s how I felt about some reveals and conversations that made me feel like I missed a hint or clue in the prior conversation. Which had me a bit confused at times and wondering “what did I miss? 🤔” The ending of the mystery wraps-up a little quick, but it was still a good ending, if not a little sad.

The parts of Hannah with her fiancé were so adorable! I loved the parts about them dreaming about the future and having kids one day as they are currently house hunting. I was quite literally grinning at my Kindle like a ninny at those parts! They are really cute together and I like how light and innocent the romance content has been.

Well, this ended up going in a different direction than I was expecting with the mystery, everyone involved and affected by it, and the ending result! I thought the main mystery would be tracking down those mentioned in the letter Hannah finds, but that’s resolved pretty quick—and more connecting mysteries appear! It was a solid cozy mystery book that kept my attention and kept me guessing to figure out how everything was connected.

My personal Rating-

I’ve never been one for country music (and by default of assuming they are similar, bluegrass music as well), but I found myself interested in this mystery regardless and curious about who the culprit or culprits were. I really liked the sweet light romance between Hannah and her fella (they are so sweet and cute together!), but also message of forgiveness at the end of the book.

I’m not sure why I enjoy books about art crimes and heists, but it’s definitely become a buzz word for me and I’m instantly much more interested in a book when I hear it has that element! I was excited to see Hannah and her group again, but also curious about this mystery. I had my suspicions about who the culprit was, though I mostly enjoyed just following along with Hannah as she tries to solve the mystery!

My personal Rating-

Elvis Has Left the Building – The Elvis stuff was completely lost on me, but it was a decent mystery. Definitely not the most realistic or accurate, but that’s pretty common with suspense/mystery books. The little bit of romance was okay, rushed, but okay.

The Puzzle King – Hmm. This one was interesting because of the puzzle competitions, but I wasn’t a fan of the mystery. The brand-new sheriff instant pegged that Jane was the murderer just because she gave him a cup of coffee. Then, Jane was constantly alone with the murder suspects. I didn’t care for her personality, really. The whole novella had depressing undertones.

A Puzzling Weekend – This one was pretty good. The ending/result was a little lackluster, but I actually liked the main girl this time and thought the mystery was interesting. Very light romance with the officer, but the Tabi never put herself in danger like the other novellas.

Mystery at the Jigsaw Swap – My favorite of the collection—no shock, I know. ;) I liked how Mariah didn’t put herself in dangerous situations, but still was involved in trying to figure things out. There was good faith content (the most from the four novellas) and I enjoyed it.

Overall, I didn’t enjoy this collection as much as I hoped I would, but the last two were pretty good and I thought it was neat how there could be four different murder mysteries surrounding puzzles.
