"Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" by Anne Dayton & May Vanderbilt

About this book:

“Ana, Christine, Riley, and Zoe have grown closer than ever over the past few months, but summer is over and it's time to put their friendship to the test.
It's been a little over a year since Christine Lee's mom passed away in a tragic car accident. Now her dad is engaged to Candace--"The Bimbo"--and Christine couldn't be less thrilled. When her attitude starts to take a toll on her schoolwork, the administration forces her to attend counseling sessions. At least she gets to skip gym class!
But with her father's wedding inching closer, Christine is growing even more bitter. To make matters worse, the Miracle Girls are beginning to drift apart. Christine's anger and the pressures of high school threaten to break the girls up when they need each other the most. Will they find a way to join together to help Christine come to terms with her mother's death . . . and her father's remarriage?”

I vaguely remembered this sequel and the rest of the series, so re-reading was in order.
Christine has been through a lot in a last two years that have made her jaded towards life and God. I wish there had been more towards the end about God and Christine being able to see her mom again in Heaven, but her journey throughout the story was realistic. Not my favorite Christian YA book, but I do like that the Miracle Girls are diverse in their lives and interests.

"Betsy's River Adventure" by Veda Boyd Jones

About this book:

“Thirteen-year-old Betsy Miller is shocked when her parents decide to move from their home in Boston to the rugged frontier city of Cincinnati. They'll take a difficult, weeks-long journey by boat down the Ohio River.
If that's not bad enough, Betsy's annoying cousin George is also making the trip-with his equally annoying dog. Why does she have to leave Boston and the friends she has there? What will her new life in Cincinnati be like? Will her family’s faith even bring them through the trip?
Let the Sisters in Time series take you back to 1808—where you may find that Betsy Miller isn’t that much different than you!
Especially for girls ages eight to twelve, this exciting story shares the emotional turmoil of a young woman experiencing dramatic life changes-while at the same time teaching important lessons of Christian faith and American history. It's an ideal book for personal reading or homeschooling.”

This was an interesting one in this series because of the river traveling. Betsy also has to learn the important lesson of having revenge on George, her younger cousin, is not the right thing to do.
