"Last Chance for Justice" by Kathi Macias

About this book:

“Welcome to Bloomfield, where life is simple, love is real, and stories are shared.
Lynn Myers is still reeling from losing her husband of thirty-five years when word comes that her only sibling, an older brother, has also died. With no one else to settle the estate, she must return to her small hometown of Bloomfield, however briefly, to settle his affairs.
Lynn’s daughter, Rachel, has just graduated from Bible college and with no other commitments comes along to sort through her uncle’s huge old home, right next to the local cemetery.
It isn't long before Rachel has two men -- a handsome CPA and the youth pastor -- seriously vying for her attention. At the same time, Lynn's attention is drawn to a set of journals her brother has left behind detailing a long-standing Bloomfield mystery.
As they pursue solving this mystery, Rachel must make some personal decisions about her future, while Lynn is forced to face unexpected issues from her own past.”

My personal Rating-

The first book I read by Kathi Macias got a five-star rating from me—no small feat as y’all know—and I’m sad to say it’s taken me a year and a half to pick up another book by her, why I’m not sure! She’s a great, clean, characters-with-great-faiths author! I really enjoyed “Last Chance for Justice”. (Even though I got caught up more in the John vs Hayden then the mystery, most of the time. ;) )

See y’all on Friday with a new review!

*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author.

"The Singing Quilt" by Kathi Macias

{Sorry for this being so late y'all! Goodreads was down and I need that site for my reviews...}

About this book:

“Jolissa Montoya believes God is calling her to work with the disadvantaged children in her inner-city neighborhood. There's only one problem: The children wouldn't be able to understand her. Jolissa suffers from a speech impediment and has a thick accent because Spanish is her first language. Ridiculed through much of her youth, she is quite shy and reticent to speak. She is convinced that what God has spoken to her heart is impossible. Impossible, that is, until one day when her confidante shows her a quilt--a quilt that depicts the life of a courageous woman. Can another woman's courage move her to try the impossible and step out and follow God wherever He leads her? The Singing Quilt is set against the backdrop of the life of Fanny Crosby, who in addition to writing hundreds of songs was also a well-known public speaker and active in Christian rescue missions despite her disability. Readers will be inspired not to let fear or a disability prevent them from answering what they think is God's impossible call. The Singing Quilt is the third book in the contemporary fiction "Quilt" series written by award-winning author Kathi Macias. The series focuses on various social issues, including racial and pro-life issues.”

Series: The “Quilt” series, book #3. Can be a stand-alone novel. {I didn’t know this book was part of a series! I can’t wait to read book #1, “The Moses Quilt” & book #2 “The Doctor’s Christmas Quilt”!)

Spiritual Content- Mark 10:14, Psalm 91, Isaiah 42:16 and other Scriptures are quoted and studied; Jolissa gets told the (amazing!) life story of Fanny Crosby; Jolissa does not think she is worthy of God’s love or even talking to Him *Spoiler* but mid-way through the book, she realizes no one is worthy of His Love and Mercy, and asks Him to come into her heart. *End of Spoiler*; Prayers, Church going, and Hymns reading are a major part of this story.

Negative Content- Jolissa’s Tio cusses (but nothing is written) and calls her an idiota, stupid & worthless many times where she starts to believe all that’s true (it’s so not!).

Sexual Content- N/A

(only because of Jolissa’s uncle) (This book had such a powerful message; about not giving up and Trusting Him)

My personal Rating-

Oh! Where to start?! I just adore and love this book! It had a classic, wonderful, perfect, fiction ending (Which some people might not like, but I do! Like I always say: “I don’t care if it’s not a hundred percent realistic—That’s why I read fiction, people!” ;) ) I cannot rave about “The Singing Quilt” enough!
