"Make a Wish" by Sandra Byrd

About this book:

  Now that Lucy and Serena have found the diary, it’s time to jump into their first adventure. Since the diary girls had a party, Serena decides it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate Lucy’s twelfth birthday! Lucy isn’t so sure. She knows only a few girls on the Island, and some of them have been pretty rude. Will anyone come?
   Lucy’s never had a birthday party with other kids before, so she decides to go for it. But in the midst of all their plans, one of the invitations comes back to her—with a threat to cancel the party. Lucy wonders if she made a big mistake. Should she cancel the party…or face the threat head on?

Series: Book #2 of the “The Hidden Diary” series. {Read Book #1’s Review Here! There are 8 books in this series.}

Spiritual Content- James 4:8 is on the back of the book (Just the reference, it’s not written out there but is written out at the end of the book.); Serena’s a Christian & Lucy wishes she could be close to Jesus like her; Prayers & Christian Music; Lucy notices that her parents are changing and wonders if that’s because of Jesus.

Negative Content- Minor cussing including: two forms of ‘stupid’ & four ‘dumb’s; Julie is rude to Lucy; It’s hinted (then mentioned) that Lucy’s parents argued & separated the year before the book started (Lucy’s afraid that it’ll happen again); Lucy gets huffy when her dad doesn’t tell her she had a message; a mention of smoking.

Sexual Content- Jake is nice to Lucy which makes Serena smirk & giggle.

-Lucy Larson, turns 12 in this book.

(and a half)
Early High School Teens-
Older High School Teens-
My personal Rating-
{ Lowered ratings for mentions of Lucy’s parents arguing & separated a year prior. }
“Make a Wish” had a good lesson about being nice to those who aren’t and forgiving. It was also really neat to see Lucy’s faith grow. :)

See y’all on Friday with a new review! :)
